Field Strength Correlator and an Infrared Fixed Point of the Wilsonian Exact Renormalization Group Equations
نویسنده
چکیده
The correlator of two field strengths is computed from an effective action for Yang Mills theories, which contains both gluons and an auxiliary antisymmetric tensor field for the field strength as local variables. This action allows to relate explicitly many different approaches to confinement, and is computed using Wilsonian renormalization group equations with the bare Yang Mills action as starting point. Due to the inclusion of a higher dimensional operator in the ghost sector the running gauge coupling becomes vanishingly small at a critical scale kc, and the resulting low energy action resembles the action of a confining string theory proposed by Polyakov. A misleading Wilsonian fixed point
We exhibit here, for a scalar theory, an apparently non-trivial Wilsonian fixed point, which surprisingly describes a free theory. This modest note is an observation which can be of interest in the framework of functional methods in Quantum Field Theory. The search for Wilsonian fixed points is important in Quantum Field Theory, as these represent configurations independent of the energy scale ...
متن کاملConfinement, Monopoles and Wilsonian Effective Action
An effective low energy action for Yang-Mills theories is proposed, which invokes an additional auxiliary field Hμν for the field strength Fμν . For a particular relation between the parameters of this action a gluon propagator with a 1/p4 behaviour for p2 → 0 in the Landau gauge is obtained. The abelian subsector of this action admits a duality transformation, where the dual action contains a ...
متن کاملEffective Field Theory with a Variable Ultraviolet Cutoff
The properties of strongly gravitating systems suggest that field theory overcounts the states of a system. Reducing the number of degrees of freedom, without abandoning the notion of effective field theory, may be achieved through a connection between the ultraviolet and infrared cutoffs. We provide an implementation of this idea within the Wilsonian approach to the renormalization group. We d...
متن کاملAn Alternative to Exact Renormalization and Cosmological Solutions in String Theory
In this work we review the application of a functional method, serving as an alternative to the Wilsonian Exact Renormalization approach, to stringy bosonic σ-models with metric and dilaton backgrounds on a spherical world sheet [1]. We derive an exact evolution equation for the dilaton with the amplitude of quantum fluctuations, driven by the kinetic term of the two-dimensional world-sheet the...
متن کاملWilsonian renormalization, differential equations and Hopf algebras
In this paper, we present an algebraic formalism inspired by Butcher’s B-series in numerical analysis and the Connes-Kreimer approach to perturbative renormalization. We first define power series of non linear operators and propose several applications, among which the perturbative solution of a fixed point equation using the non linear geometric series. Then, following Polchinski, we show how ...
